The original blanket which can be found at the American Civil War Museum in Richmond was issues by the C.S. Quartermaster in winter 1862-1863 and was used until the end of the war.
Some blankets were blanket stitched on the raw striped ends after issue. The original blanket was not. If you would like to watch a video on the blanket stitch which can be used to bind your blanket Civil War Digital Digest produced this one.
